Edvard Grieg - Sonata, Op. 7
Grieg's only piano sonata, the Sonata in E Minor Op.7 is a beautiful and sincere work, however it is greatly eclipsed by his famous Piano Concerto in A Minor Op.16, which stands as one of the greatest works in thesolo piano repertoire. This work reflects a young and passionate artist, who is greatly influenced by traditional Norwegian folk music.
This sonata is in four movements, with a beautiful transitional third movement, whichseparates the lamenting second movement Andante Molto from the rousing finale Molto Allegro. This version has been edited by Paolo Gallico and contains thoroughly detailed editorial markings and fingeringsuggestions.
