This Copper Metallic colour was rarely used by Fender through the fifties; it appeared for the first time on the 52 Esquire and Telecaster. When the custom colours were standardised in 1960 the copper finish was eliminated from the chart.
More recently, it has been used by the Fender Custom Shop for exclusive and master built guitars.
This finish is a single component acrylic paint. It allows to apply the colour in a very even way, giving a spectacular metallic appearance. Its important to finish the applied coat with a clear polyurethane or nitrocellulose finish over it, to protect the plating and add depth.
