Inspired by the finish of the Chevy Corvette car from the late 50s, Fender starting using this colour named as Inca Silver as a custom colour option. It was used from 1960 to 1965, when Fender changed their silver custom colour option to Firemist Silver. Fender also used it as the undercoat for Candy Apple Red until Fender switched to a gold undercoat late 1965.
This silver metallic lacquer has finer metallic parts than the NitorLACK silversparkle finish. Apart from Candy Apple Red, its suitable as a base coat for other coloured semi-transparent finishes as well. For this colour, using a white base is adviced; also it is essential to apply a gloss finish as a top coat to protect the colour from sanding through and give depth to the finish.
This finish is a single component acrylic paint. It allows to apply the colour in a very even way, giving a spectacular metallic appearance. Its important to finish the applied coat with a clear polyurethane or nitrocellulose finish over it, to protect the plating and add depth.
